I.                   Introduction

            Our research aims to study current women’s clothing terminology, which shall include the terms related to clothing, footwear and accessories. We highlighted the close connection between the specialized language and the common language, because the clothing terms circulate from one register to another, an aspect rendered by the presence of these terms in widely circulated magazines and in general dictionaries.

II.                Novelty issues

The approach of current women’s clothing terminology is the main novelty of our research, because, so far, there is no other complex study on women’s clothing terminology of French origin in Romanian.

The theme has been studied from the perspective of current terminology, that of Cabré, because most clothing terms do not have a monosemantic character and can not be analyzed under ideal conditions.

Clothing terminology generally has a polysemantic status, therefore, terms enter into various relationships with other terms. Another novelty resides in the study of women’s clothing terms from the perspective of external terminology, in which the specialized term is also used in common language, given the fact that the created corpus has included works to which the average reader has access.

            The glossaries added in the annexes, which are, in fact, terminographic products, are also elements of originality in the research of clothing terminology. Therefore, the research inventoried 3 glossaries of women’s clothing terms based on Romanian magazines, specialized works in the field of clothing fashion and specialized and general dictionaries selected in the constitution of the corpus; 1 glossary of women’s clothing terms not yet registered lexicographically; 1 glossary of female clothing terms common to the three constituent components of the corpus.
