From the very title – double and reversible: THE CHALLENGE OF ALTERITIES. For a “Transgressive” Comparative Reason / LE DÉFI DES ALTERITÉS. Pour une raison comparatiste et «transgressive» – and then through its content itself this book will generate in the reader's mind an inevitable question, but also a legitimate one: why did the author write it in two languages instead of one?

... Because it was written in Romanian just as it was written in French – thus confirming Maurice Blanchot:

„What speaks in him is the fact that, one way or another, he is no longer himself; he isn't anyone anymore. That “He” which stands for “I” here is the loneliness the writer enters through his work.”

For the reader, it is now clear that the “challenge of otherness,” before being the theme of this book (announced by the title), “works” at its original level, or we could say at its essential one: that of language.

The volume offers the reader a (self) interpretation: Fundoianu-Fondane, nominated from the first pages as the author of an article written in Romanian and an essay written in French - this double name, therefore, can be “read” as a personalized metaphor of “provoking alterities” at the language level of this book.
