Ea se ocupă de practici actoricești din trecut și privește istoria teatrului maghiar din secolul al XX-lea ca pe o istorie a artei actorului. This book, although rooted in a long-standing tradition, is also an experiment of sorts. It explores acting practices of the past and approaches twentieth-century Hungarian theatre history as a history of acting. Its central hypothesis is that, alongside and beyond the history of director’s theatre, it is possible to outline equally distinctive histories of acting that have shaped contemporary Hungarian theatre just as profoundly. Through four case studies—analyses of the work of József Timár, Éva Ruttkai, Árpád Ódry, and Lili Monori—the book seeks to demonstrate that not only theatre itself, but acting as such, can be regarded as a cultural model, and that theatre history is transmitted, even without being codified, through the practice of acting.
