The “Digital Manufacturing” series aims to present the technologies involved in modern manufacturing controlled by specific computer systems. The specific elements of manufacturing systems such as joining and micro-joining technologies, technologies for automatic systems, mechanical processing and more are addressed in this book. The approach is easily descriptive without wanting to replace manuals for operator training.

This book is aimed at engineers and researchers involved in research and development activities related to welding processes using digital tools such as welding simulators to create new products.

The topics discussed relate to welding and digital education in the field of welding using XR technologies. The book is structured in 6 theoretical chapters containing elements on the training and qualification of welders according to European guidelines, a description of the components dedicated to digital training of future welders, three chapters on electric arc welding technologies that can be simulated with current equipment, and a review of the most important quality standards applicable in welding processes in order to improve quality in joint processes. The book concludes with a chapter dedicated to computer applications for training and evaluation of the theoretical components presented above (computer application for users without internet access, learning management system available on the Internet and the presentation of real case studies of welding were introduced and simulated on a welding simulator using augmented reality technology. The actual welding cases concerned welding processes applicable in the construction of river or sea vessels, the construction of railways, the automotive industry, pipelines, pressure vessels or civil engineering. The results obtained from the simulation of the welding processes are also presented synthetically to improve the knowledge and skills of the welding staff.
