Based on an extensive bibliography, consisting of both books written by black authors and a solid critical interpretation, the volume The Book that Speaks was the first major Romanian contribution to the discussion of a topic less addressed by American scholars in Romania. The intention was to connect the African-American novel, its foundation and ways of stylistic expression with the very development of black Americans and thus undertake a study whose significance goes beyond that of a simple genealogical history. Thus, the conflicting evolution of a mentality was highlighted, outlining conclusions that concern, in fact, the whole set of social, political and aesthetic ideas that underlie the culture of black Americans of this long period.
