The idea of writing this book did not rise from the objective of studying English (in which we have no direct scientific interest), but to research a particular phenomenon in linguistics: the way how a special military conflict, an endless guerrilla war waged in an underdeveloped country in the tropics, influenced the language of soldiers in the world’s most powerful army, the U.S. Army. The language devised during the Vietnam War is the most creative of all the languages generated by the wars in which the United States was involved.
