Peer Review

Submission Process and Peer Review Procedure

Editura Universitaria employs a formalized and transparent procedure for soliciting, selecting, and evaluating manuscripts, in accordance with academic standards and research ethics.

1. Manuscript Acquisition Process

Publication proposals are solicited through several channels:

  • Recommendations from the Press’s Scientific Board, composed of recognized specialists (including doctoral advisors);
  • Inclusion in the Studia Doctoralia collection of doctoral theses validated through public defense and awarded the "Very Good" distinction;
  • Direct submission of manuscripts by authors (academic staff, researchers, and doctoral students) from Romania and abroad, via the online platform or the Press’s email address.

Authors are informed in advance of the editorial and scientific requirements; manuscripts are accepted for evaluation only if they fall within the Press’s scope and standards.

2. Editorial Pre-evaluation Stage

Manuscripts are initially reviewed by subject editors to verify fulfillment of the minimum criteria:

  • Alignment with the Press’s scientific scope;
  • Scientific character and timeliness of the topic;
  • Structural coherence;
  • Citation accuracy and currency of the bibliography;
  • Adherence to academic writing standards.

Only compliant manuscripts are forwarded for scientific evaluation.

3. Scientific Evaluation Procedure (Peer Review)

All works are subject to a 100% peer review process, conducted by two independent reviewers—specialists in the manuscript’s field—from both domestic and international institutions.

Evaluation process:

  • It is conducted as a double-blind peer review (ensuring the anonymity of both authors and reviewers);
  • It involves the use of standardized evaluation forms, based on explicit criteria;
  • It is carried out within a timeframe of approximately 30 days.

Evaluation criteria include:

  • The scientific relevance and impact of the work;
  • Originality and contribution to the field;
  • Methodological rigor and theoretical foundation;
  • Quality of analysis and coherence of the argument;
  • Accuracy in the use of sources;
  • Adherence to academic and ethical standards;
  • Quality of writing and graphic presentation.

The evaluation also explicitly addresses compliance with ethics and academic integrity standards.

4. Evaluation Results

Following the peer review process, the manuscript may be:

  • Accepted for publishing
  • Accepted with alterations;
  • declined.

In the event of a discrepancy between reviewers, a third opinion is sought (a third referee).

Autorii primesc observațiile recenzenților și au un termen de aproximativ 3 săptămâni pentru revizuirea manuscrisului. Nerespectarea recomandărilor conduce la respingerea lucrării.

5. Decizia editorială și contractarea

The signing of the publishing contract is contingent upon two favorable scientific reviews and the integration of the reviewers' observations.

By signing the contract, the author declares:

  • the originality of the work;
  • respecting copyrights;
  • conformity with research ethics.

6. Recognition of reviewers contributions

To ensure transparency in the editorial process, the names of the scientific reviewers who recommended the work may be mentioned in the publication, in accordance with ethical principles.

7. The Reviewer Pool and its Impact on the Evaluation Process

Editura Universitaria dispune de un corpus extins și diversificat de recenzori științifici, alcătuit din specialiști consacrați din domeniul Filologie și din domenii conexe, provenind din centre universitare de prestigiu din România și din străinătate.

The reviewer network includes academic staff and researchers affiliated with leading institutions, such as the University of Bucharest, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași, Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca, West University of Timișoara, “Dunărea de Jos” University of Galați, and Ovidius University of Constanța, as well as international academic institutions from France (Université d’Artois, Université Lyon 2, Université de Provence Aix-Marseille), Italy (University of Bari), Portugal (University of Porto), and the United States (Johns Hopkins University).

Currently, the press collaborates with more than 80 reviewers, a significant portion of whom are international academic specialists, a fact that enhances the objectivity, rigor, and relevance of the scientific evaluation process.

The expertise of this reviewer pool covers a broad spectrum of fields (linguistics, literature, cultural studies, terminology, and discourse analysis), allowing for the appropriate and specialized evaluation of manuscripts based on their specific subject matter.

The involvement of prestigious international and national reviewers directly contributes to:

  • Strengthening the quality standards of the publications;
  • Raising the level of rigor in scientific evaluation;
  • Integrating publications into the international scholarly community;
  • Academic validation of the editorial output.

Through this robust and diverse structure, the peer review process implemented by Universitaria Press goes beyond its formal nature, functioning as a genuine academic filter aimed at enhancing the quality and relevance of the published works.
