This paper, Orthodox Canon Law as a science. Genesis and perspectives, published by Mr. Senior Lecturer Phd. Iulian Mihai Constantinescu, from the Department of Canon Law of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Craiova, imposes himself in the literature of Orthodox Canon Law, precisely because of the importance and timeliness of the topic, but also by the lack of a current approach to birth and development academic science of Canon Law in the orthodox space.

In this work, the author aims to capture these difficult stages in the emergence and evolution of law in the life of the Church, with particular emphasis on the stage of its shaping as a science, canon law thus gaining an important place in theological faculties, theological and legal discipline, based on the scientific contributions of the remarkable orthodox canonists (19th-20th centuries).

The author developed here the contributions of the canonists of the 19th century and not only, since then the need was felt for a systematization of the matter of canon law, that is, for a scientific exposition of it. Thus, the contribution of some canonical scholars was highlighted, in a difficult period (19th century), not only from a historical point of view, but also by the lack of a methodology to underlie the scientific, systematic, didactic elaboration of the Law Treaties canon. Among them are Saint Metropolitan Andrei Șaguna, Bishop Nicodim Milaș, Professor Joseph Zhishman (Vienna), Greek Professor Mihalis Potlis (Athens), but also other canonists mentioned in this paper for their academic efforts.

It is to be appreciated the appearance of this work which will certainly shed more light on the birth and development of the discipline of Orthodox Canon Law, considering that it is very topical and will be well received by specialists in Canon Law and by those who he studies theology, as it fills a gap in the current specialized literature of the law of the Orthodox Church.
