The center of the spiritual life of an Orthodox Christian community consists in the Holy Liturgy, to which every believer is called to participate daily, on Sundays and holidays. The translation of the Orthodox Liturgy into Romanian Sign Language is an unprecedented initiative in the pastoral work of the Orthodox Church. The present edition gathers in its pages the Holy Liturgy of Saint John the Golden Mouth officiated in the worship of the Orthodox Church, thus fulfilling a great lack in the liturgical realm, and even pastoral missionary, intended for the Orthodox deaf in Romania. The Romanian Orthodox Church started the mission for the deaf in 1996, so that today there are 38 deaf Orthodox communities with priests serving in Romanian Sign Language.
